Fireflies

Fireflies was a 3 DoF VR game developed by BehaVR as part of an addiction recovery augmentation program. It served as a tool for practicing cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). I developed the concept for the game, and led both design and art, responsible for all modeling, texturing, lighting, rigging, animation, and VFX work. The trees in the foreground were created using SpeedTree. The scene was heavily optimized to run at 60fps on the discontinued Oculus Go headset.

Role: Designer, Artist

Responsibilities: Concept development, game design, modeling, texturing, vegetation, rigging, animation, lighting, VFX, UI, 2D animation

Target Platform: Oculus Go

Oculus Go capture of Fireflies gameplay

In the game, players are presented with a hypothetical triggering situation. Words appear throughout the environment representing thoughts, emotions, and behaviors someone might have in response to that situation.

The player must catch 3 fireflies in each jar to win. They capture fireflies by choosing empowering thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Fireflies are released when they choose words rooted in anxiety or self-destruction.
